Short Story Sunday: Chloe Banks’ “Charmed”

First line: “Naming a child is a big responsibility.”

I recently discovered the musical Into The Woods, and since then, the way the world usually works, I keep running across fairy tale re-tellings everywhere I turn. Some of it has been intentional, but coming across Chloe Banks’ “Charmed” was a happy accident.  The prince narrator definitely reminds me of the princes from Into The Woods. The story is absolutely hilarious and, well, charming. You can read it at Every Day Fiction.

What a lovely surprise to come across this post on EDF! Thanks very much and I’m glad you liked it. I don’t know Into the Woods – I’m guessing it’s a re-telling of Hansel and Gretel? Or is it Sleeping Beauty as well?

It’s Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, and one about a baker and his wife that I’m not sure has a Grimm equivalent, with little bits of Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel as well. Quite funny if you ever get a chance to see it. I really enjoyed your story, thanks for commenting!
