Short Story Sunday: Harry Turtledove’s “Under St. Peter’s”

First line: “Incense in the air, even down here behind the doors.

It being Easter Sunday, and there being a brand new Pope heading the Catholic Church, it felt appropriate to share “Under St. Peter’s” today. I first read it in the vampire anthology By Blood We Live. It is probably exactly what you expect a vampire story set in the Vatican to be about, but I won’t spoil the surprise if you haven’t figured it out yet. It’s a whole lot sacrilegious, and you might never look at Christian imagery quite the same way again.

You can read “Under St. Peter’s” right here.
