Short Story Sunday: Sarah Grey’s “The Social Phobic’s Guide to Interior Design”

sssFirst Line: “This is the real me: I am the kin of armchairs and baseboards and clever lighting.”

I know, I know, I’ve been inconsistent with this feature. It’s been rougher than I thought to keep up with a weekly schedule. But at least for now: I’m back!

Flash Fiction Online recently featured this charming, unusual story, and I knew I had to share it. Like many of my favorite stories, it can be read literally in a sort of magic-realist, fantasy way, or more symbolically. It’s beautiful either way, and captures a fairly universal feeling of anxiety and invisibility.
